Astronomers think there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe, but the exact number is still unclear. Do astronomers need to know how many galaxies we've seen and discovered so far ? No, definitely not. "We do not know the exact number of galaxies, but we know that they are very high," said Mr. Eid Cherchwil , a professor of astronomer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope , there are about 10,000 galaxies. There are about 100 to 300 billion stars in our own galaxy (the Milky Way) . Of which only 8479 stars are visible from the Earth . In a good condition , from a certain point, approximately 2,500 stars are seen with the naked eye . But as our telescopes get better, the number of galaxies increases and we can better look at the distant past
